The point of a seasoned salt is to light up the tongue with flavor.
It makes all BBQ Food taste better than just “salt and pepper” and it goes good with chicken, steak, and pork – even vegetables.
To this mixture you could add 2 tbsp of 16 mesh and now you have a solid beef rub!
Ingredients for BBQ Seasoned Salt
1/4 cup Diamond Crystal Kosher Salt
1.5 tbsp Caster Sugar
2 tbsp turmeric
2 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp granulated garlic
1/2 tbsp granulated onion
1/2 tbsp ground mustard
1 tsp ground celery seed
Don’t Substitute the Diamond Crystal 1 to 1 with Other Kosher Salts
Diamond Crystal works best here because it mixes better with the other ingredients and it’s less salty tasting than Morton’s or table salt.
It also gives volume to the rub.
Diamond Crystal left, Mortons Right
This is because Morton’s is 2x as dense as diamond crystal and its shape doesn’t mix as well.
Table salt also won’t work because its even more “salty” than Morton’s.
If You Don’t have Caster Sugar, Use Regular Sugar BUT Increase the Volume
Caster sugar is a finer granule and is much sweeter – in my copycat Lawry’s I always found it worked better to cut through all the salt.
If all you have is regular white sugar use 3 tbsp instead.
Use the Granulated Versions of Onion and Garlic
These mix better and distribute more evenly.
But if you only have the powders, use 1 tsp of each instead.
Inspiration of Other Stuff You can Add
