Simple Syrup Recipe for Smoked BBQ

As simple as equal parts sugar and water. Add fruit preserves, fruit zest, BBQ sauce and more to make it your own.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Water

Optional Ingredient Inspiration

  • 2-3 tbsp Fruit preserves or jam apricot, apple, etc.
  • 2 tbsp BBQ Sauce
  • 1 whole Zest from citrus fruit lime, orange, etc.
  • 2-3 tbsp Brewed coffee
  • 1-2 tbsp liquor like whiskey or bourbon don't boil the syrup after adding

Instructions

  • In a pot over medium-high heat, combine equal parts sugar and water.
    Ensure all the sugar is well combined and dissolved, stirring continuously.
    Optional: Add small quantities of other ingredients (examples above) to make that flavor pop more; For this recipe I added ~2 tbsp of Apricot Jam.
    1 cup Sugar, 1 cup Water
  • DO NOT bring this mixture to a boil - only bring to a slight simmer at most.
  • Once well combined, take off heat and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes.
  • Transfer to a glass or plastic bottle.
    Store in your refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
