BBQ Beef Mop Sauce Recipe

This mop compliments the stereotypical savory flavors of smoked beef.

It’s also easily modified and you can safely omit most of the ingredients.

Ingredients for BBQ Beef Mop

The main stuff to have is the beef broth, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, onions, butter, and garlic.

  • 1/2 Stick unsalted butter
  • 4 Cloves Crushed Garlic
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced
  • 2 cups Beef Broth
  • 1/4 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 Cup Water or Beer
  • 2 tbsp ACV
  • 1/4 Cup Distilled White Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp diamond crystal kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice or slices of 1/2 fresh lemon
  • 1 tsp celery seed
  • 1 tsp Red chili flake
  • 1 tsp Cumin

Mops are traditionally used for Pork – if you’re after those style of flavors, check out this mop instead.

Making this Mop Sauce is Easy

Add 1/2 stick of unsalted butter and allow to melt.

Take 1 large sweet onion and slice up and crush 4 garlic cloves.

Add these to the pot and allow them to break down until the onions are translucent and the garlic is fragrant.

Once both those happen, add all the other ingredients.

Bring this mixture to a slight boil, reduce to a simmer and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

The consistency is suppose to be thin.

Re-heat before moppin’ your meat!

Instructions

  • In a medium pot over medium-low heat, add 1/2 stick of unsalted butter and allow it to melt.
  • Take 1 large sweet onion and slice and peel.
    Take 4 cloves of garlic and crush and peel.
  • Add these to the pot with the butter and allow them to break down until the onions are translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
  • Once both of those things happen, add the rest of the ingredients. Mix the ingredients until they're well combined.
    2 cups Beef Broth, 1/4 Cup Worcestershire Sauce, 1/2 Cup Water or Beer, 2 tbsp ACV, 1/4 Cup Distilled White Vinegar, 2 tbsp Brown Sugar, 2 tsp Black Pepper, 1/2 tbsp diamond crystal kosher salt, 1 tbsp lemon juice or slices of 1/2 fresh lemon, 1 tsp celery seed, 1 tsp Red chili flake, 1 tsp Cumin
  • Bring this mixture to a slight boil and then reduce to a simmer.
  • Simmer for 5-10 minutes. The consistency is suppose to be thin.
  • When it comes time to mop your meat, re-heat the mixture.
